Buenos Aires eSIM

82 Argentina plans · from $5.39

Buenos Aires is a late city spread across barrios that each feel like a different town, and the practical realities — which exchange rate applies today, which taxi app to use, whether that milonga starts at midnight or two — all live on your phone. A travel eSIM covers it from Ezeiza, an hour out of town on a motorway you do not want to negotiate blind.

Landing at Ezeiza & Aeroparque (EZE / AEP)

International flights land at Ezeiza, 45–60 minutes from the centre; Aeroparque handles domestic and regional routes and is ten minutes from Palermo. Check which one your connection uses — travellers regularly book a domestic leg assuming the same airport.

Which networks you'll be on in Buenos Aires

Siima eSIMs for Argentina ride Claro and Movistar. Claro has the broader national footprint including Patagonia and the north-west; Movistar is comparable across the capital.

Coverage around Buenos Aires

Subte and the buses

Station coverage is good across all six Subte lines. Tunnel coverage between stations is inconsistent on the older lines — Línea A in particular — so load your route before descending.

Palermo, Recoleta and San Telmo

Strong 4G across the neighbourhoods most visitors stay in, with 5G in much of Palermo. San Telmo's Sunday market gets congested enough to slow things at peak hours.

La Boca and the riverfront

Covered throughout Caminito and Puerto Madero. Worth having live maps in La Boca specifically — the tourist streets are a small area and the advice is to stay within them.

Tigre delta and the pampas

The train north to Tigre holds signal the whole way. Coverage on the delta itself is good on the main channels and thins on the smaller waterways.

How much data you need

A week in Buenos Aires runs 3–5 GB. If you are continuing to Iguazú, Mendoza or Patagonia, size for the whole route — one Argentina plan covers all of it.

Frequently asked questions

Does an Argentina eSIM work on a day trip to Uruguay?
No. Colonia and Montevideo are a ferry ride across the river and one of the most common day trips from Buenos Aires, but Uruguay is a separate country and needs its own plan or a South America regional one.
Will my eSIM work in Patagonia and at Iguazú Falls?
Yes, on the same country plan. Iguazú and the main Patagonian towns — Bariloche, El Calafate, Ushuaia — have solid coverage. Route 40 between them has long empty stretches with nothing at all.
How do I set up an eSIM before arriving in Buenos Aires?
Install it at home while you still have Wi-Fi: open Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM and scan the QR code from your Siima confirmation email. Leave the line switched off until you land — the plan starts counting from first use in Argentina, not from purchase.
How much data do I need for a trip to Buenos Aires?
A week in Buenos Aires runs 3–5 GB. If you are continuing to Iguazú, Mendoza or Patagonia, size for the whole route — one Argentina plan covers all of it.
Is an eSIM cheaper than roaming in Buenos Aires?
Almost always. Daily roaming passes from most home carriers run $10–15 per day, while Siima plans covering Buenos Aires start from $5.39 for the whole trip. You also avoid per-megabyte charges if you exceed a roaming pass allowance.
