Find answers to common questions about eSIMs, installation, and your account.

Getting started

What is an eSIM?
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM card built into your device. It allows you to activate a mobile data plan remotely without needing a physical SIM card.
Is my device compatible?
Most modern smartphones support eSIM: iPhone XS and later, Google Pixel 3 and later, Samsung Galaxy S20 and later, and many other Android flagship phones. Go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM on iOS, or Settings → Network → SIM on Android to check.
Do I need to remove my current SIM?
No. You can use your regular SIM and eSIM simultaneously (dual SIM). Keep your existing number for calls while the eSIM handles data.
Does eSIM work on a locked phone?
A carrier-locked phone may reject eSIM profiles from other carriers. Check with your home carrier first — most carriers unlock phones after the initial contract period ends, or on request.
Can I use an eSIM if I am already abroad?
Yes. You need an internet connection to download the eSIM profile (use hotel Wi-Fi or your existing roaming). Once installed, the eSIM works independently.

Installation

How do I install my eSIM?
You have three options: (1) Tap the "Install eSIM Now" button on mobile browsers — it opens your device's eSIM wizard directly. (2) Scan the QR code with your phone's camera app. (3) Enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code manually in Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM.
The QR code is not working — what do I do?
Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi or your regular mobile data when installing. Try the manual entry method as a fallback: go to Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Enter details manually and copy the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your confirmation email. If it still fails, contact support.
Can I install the eSIM on multiple devices?
No. Each eSIM profile is tied to one device at a time and can only be activated once — most QR codes stop working after the first scan. If you switch phones before using your data, contact support to check if the profile can be reissued to the new device; once data has been used, you will need to purchase a new plan.
Can I install the eSIM before my trip?
Yes, and we recommend it. Install at home on Wi-Fi. Your data plan only activates when you first use mobile data abroad — so installing early costs you nothing.
I see "eSIM already downloaded" error — what now?
This means the profile was already installed on a device. If you cannot find the installed eSIM in your settings, it may have been deleted. Contact support and we will check the status of your plan.

Data & plans

When does my data plan start?
Your plan duration begins when you first use mobile data with the eSIM active — not at the time of purchase. You can install the eSIM days before your trip without using up any plan time.
What happens when I run out of data?
Mobile data will stop. Purchase a new plan from your account at any time to top up. Your eSIM profile stays installed and will activate the new plan automatically.
Do plans auto-renew?
No. All plans are one-time purchases. You are never charged automatically.
Can I use the eSIM for calls and texts?
Siima eSIMs are data-only plans. For calls and SMS, keep your regular SIM active (dual SIM). You can make calls over data using apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, or Google Meet.
Does the eSIM work for mobile hotspot / tethering?
This depends on the specific plan. Most plans support hotspot use, but some have tethering restrictions. Check the plan details before purchasing if hotspot is important to you.

Payments & refunds

What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex) and Apple Pay via Stripe. All payments are processed securely — we never store your card details.
Can I get a refund?
If you have not installed the eSIM yet, you can request a refund within 30 days of purchase from your Order History page. Once an eSIM is installed, we cannot issue refunds.
Is my payment information secure?
Yes. Payments are handled by Stripe, a PCI DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. Siima never sees or stores your card number.
