Belmopan eSIM

19 Belize plans · from $28.16

Belmopan has been Belize's capital since 1970, built inland after a hurricane devastated the old capital, Belize City — but Belize City remains the country's real hub: the airport, the cruise port, and the start of almost every trip. Belmopan itself is a small, quiet government town. One eSIM covers it and the cayes, the reef and the jungle interior alike.

Landing at Philip S. W. Goldson International (BZE)

Belmopan has no international airport. Every international flight lands at Philip S. W. Goldson, outside Belize City — about an hour's drive from Belmopan itself.

Belmopan is covered by every Belize plan below — there is no separate city-only eSIM to buy.

How “Unlimited” works: Never cut off — each plan gives a set amount of full-speed data, then a slower speed. The exact allowance and speed are shown on every plan.Read more

Unlimited plans never run out and your eSIM is never disconnected, but every one has a fair-use limit: a set amount of full-speed data, after which the speed is reduced. The amounts differ between plans — most give a daily full-speed allowance that refills every 24 hours from when you first activate the eSIM, while Premium plans give a larger allowance for the whole plan instead. Each plan states its own allowance and the speed after it before you buy. At the reduced speed, messaging, maps, email and light browsing still work; video streaming and video calls may not. If you want every gigabyte at full speed, choose a fixed-GB plan.

Which networks you'll be on in Belmopan

Siima eSIMs for Belize ride BTL (digi) and Smart, whichever is strongest at your location. Both cover Belmopan's government district and the Hummingbird Highway corridor reliably on 4G.

Coverage around Belmopan

Belmopan

Good 4G across the compact government district and ring road. This is a small, low-key city with little traffic and nowhere genuinely remote.

Belize City

Strong coverage downtown, the cruise terminal and the airport — see the Belize guide for the specific south-side crime advisory, which is about safety, not signal.

Cayo District (San Ignacio, Xunantunich, Caracol)

Reliable signal in San Ignacio town, holding at the Xunantunich ruins across the hand-cranked ferry, then dropping out for the final stretch into Caracol and the Chiquibul Forest Reserve.

The cayes (Ambergris, Caye Caulker)

Same country plan. San Pedro and Caye Caulker town both hold 4G well; the Great Blue Hole and the outer reef are offshore with no signal expected.

How much data you need

A week split between the cayes and a Cayo District day (Xunantunich, cave tubing, Caracol) runs 2-3 GB. Belmopan itself barely registers — there is little here to load a map or a page against.

Frequently asked questions

Is Belmopan or Belize City the capital of Belize?
Belmopan is the official capital and seat of government, built inland after Hurricane Hattie destroyed much of Belize City in 1961. Belize City remains the country's largest city, its only international airport, and where almost every visitor actually arrives. One Belize eSIM covers both, plus the cayes and the jungle interior.
Does my Belize eSIM work on the cayes and in the Cayo District too?
Yes — Siima plans for Belize are country-wide. Expect solid 4G in the towns and cayes, and real dead zones around Caracol and deep in the Chiquibul Forest Reserve.
How do I set up an eSIM before arriving in Belmopan?
Install it at home while you still have Wi-Fi: open Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM and scan the QR code on your Siima eSIM page (open it from your account, or from the link in your Siima email). Leave the line switched off until you land — the plan starts counting from first use in Belize, not from purchase.
How much data do I need for a trip to Belmopan?
A week split between the cayes and a Cayo District day (Xunantunich, cave tubing, Caracol) runs 2-3 GB. Belmopan itself barely registers — there is little here to load a map or a page against.
Is an eSIM cheaper than roaming in Belmopan?
Almost always. Daily roaming passes from most home carriers run $10–15 per day, while Siima plans covering Belmopan start from $28.16 for the whole trip. You also avoid per-megabyte charges if you exceed a roaming pass allowance.
