Quito sits at 2,850 metres in a valley strung between volcanoes, with the best-preserved colonial old town in the Americas at its centre. Landing at Mariscal Sucre (UIO)
The airport moved out to Tababela and is now 45–75 minutes east of the city depending on traffic — much further than visitors expect. Budget for the transfer time and book the ride rather than assuming a quick hop.

Unlimited plans never run out and your eSIM is never disconnected, but every one has a fair-use limit: a set amount of full-speed data, after which the speed is reduced. The amounts differ between plans — most give a daily full-speed allowance that refills every 24 hours from when you first activate the eSIM, while Premium plans give a larger allowance for the whole plan instead. Each plan states its own allowance and the speed after it before you buy. At the reduced speed, messaging, maps, email and light browsing still work; video streaming and video calls may not. If you want every gigabyte at full speed, choose a fixed-GB plan.

Coverage around Quito
Old Town and La Mariscal
Good coverage across the colonial centre, the Basílica and the Mariscal district. The narrow colonial streets weaken indoor signal in the older buildings.
TelefériQo and Pichincha
The cable car up to 4,000 metres is covered, and signal holds at the top — the Rucu Pichincha trail beyond it thins out.
Cotopaxi, Otavalo and Quilotoa
The Pan-American highway and the market towns are well covered. The Cotopaxi park road has signal to the refuge car park and little above it; Quilotoa's crater rim is covered, the loop trails less so.
The Amazon and the Galápagos
Amazon lodges past Coca run on lodge Wi-Fi at best. The Galápagos have coverage in Puerto Ayora and the main towns and essentially none on the boat itineraries and outer islands.
How much data you need
Two weeks in Ecuador is 3–5 GB. The Galápagos leg will use almost none — most cruise itineraries are offline by design.
