Unlimited plans never run out and your eSIM is never disconnected, but every one has a fair-use limit: a set amount of full-speed data, after which the speed is reduced. The amounts differ between plans — most give a daily full-speed allowance that refills every 24 hours from when you first activate the eSIM, while Premium plans give a larger allowance for the whole plan instead. Each plan states its own allowance and the speed after it before you buy. At the reduced speed, messaging, maps, email and light browsing still work; video streaming and video calls may not. If you want every gigabyte at full speed, choose a fixed-GB plan.

The China–Laos railway
The high-speed line north is covered at the stations and along much of the route, but it runs through a great many tunnels where signal drops. Tickets are notoriously hard to get on the day — book through an agent or the app in advance.
Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang
Both towns are well covered, including the riverside and the main viewpoints. The caves, the lagoons and the karst trails around Vang Vieng lose signal.
The northern mountains
Roads towards Phonsavan and the far north have long gaps. The Plain of Jars sites have patchy coverage, and unexploded ordnance means you stay on marked paths regardless.
How much data you need
A week in Laos is 2–4 GB. The country moves slowly and so will you — most of the consumption is navigation and messaging.
