Podgorica eSIM

86 Montenegro plans · from $4.04

Podgorica is Montenegro's capital and its least interesting town — a low-rise administrative centre most visitors pass through on the way to Kotor bay or the Durmitor mountains. A travel eSIM covers all of it on one plan, and Montenegro is outside the EU despite using the euro.

Landing at Podgorica & Tivat (TGD / TIV)

Podgorica's airport is 12km from town. Most coast-bound travellers fly into Tivat instead, which is minutes from Kotor bay — check which one your booking uses, as they are 90 minutes apart.

Podgorica is covered by every Montenegro plan below — there is no separate city-only eSIM to buy.

Which networks you'll be on in Podgorica

Siima eSIMs for Montenegro ride Crnogorski Telekom, One and m:tel. Coverage is strong along the coast and in the towns, and thinner in the northern mountains.

Coverage around Podgorica

Podgorica and the Morača

Solid coverage across the city, the old Ribnica quarter and the riverside. The city is compact and easy to cross.

Kotor bay and the coast

Comprehensively covered — Kotor, Perast, Budva and the coastal road all have good signal, including the Vrmac and Lovćen serpentine climbs.

Durmitor and the Tara canyon

Žabljak and the main park roads are covered; the Black Lake circuit holds signal and the higher trails do not. The Tara canyon rafting stretches lose it entirely.

Ostrog Monastery

The cliff monastery has coverage at the lower level and the car park; the upper terrace is patchier, though the queue there is the real constraint.

How much data you need

A week in Montenegro is 2–4 GB. Coastal navigation on the switchbacks is where most of it goes.

Frequently asked questions

Montenegro uses the euro — is it in the EU?
No. Montenegro adopted the euro unilaterally but is not an EU member, so EU roaming rules do not apply and standard international rates do. The currency catches people out; the roaming bill catches them out later.
Should I stay in Podgorica or on the coast?
Almost everyone stays on the coast — Kotor, Budva or Herceg Novi — or in Žabljak for the mountains. Podgorica is the transport and administrative hub. One country plan covers all of them.
How do I set up an eSIM before arriving in Podgorica?
Install it at home while you still have Wi-Fi: open Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM and scan the QR code from your Siima confirmation email. Leave the line switched off until you land — the plan starts counting from first use in Montenegro, not from purchase.
How much data do I need for a trip to Podgorica?
A week in Montenegro is 2–4 GB. Coastal navigation on the switchbacks is where most of it goes.
Is an eSIM cheaper than roaming in Podgorica?
Almost always. Daily roaming passes from most home carriers run $10–15 per day, while Siima plans covering Podgorica start from $4.04 for the whole trip. You also avoid per-megabyte charges if you exceed a roaming pass allowance.
