Unlimited plans never run out and your eSIM is never disconnected, but every one has a fair-use limit: a set amount of full-speed data, after which the speed is reduced. The amounts differ between plans — most give a daily full-speed allowance that refills every 24 hours from when you first activate the eSIM, while Premium plans give a larger allowance for the whole plan instead. Each plan states its own allowance and the speed after it before you buy. At the reduced speed, messaging, maps, email and light browsing still work; video streaming and video calls may not. If you want every gigabyte at full speed, choose a fixed-GB plan.

Coverage around Mexico City
Metro and Metrobús
Station coverage is good across the network, but tunnel coverage between stations is inconsistent — noticeably worse than in comparable capitals. The above-ground Metrobús lines hold signal throughout.
Roma, Condesa and Centro Histórico
Dense 4G/5G across the neighbourhoods most visitors stay in. The Centro's colonial buildings weaken indoor signal but outdoor coverage is reliable.
Chapultepec and Xochimilco
Chapultepec park and the museums are well covered. The Xochimilco canals have workable signal on the main trajinera routes and thin out on the quieter southern channels.
Teotihuacán
The pyramid complex has coverage across the site and along the Avenue of the Dead. The bus route north from Terminal del Norte holds signal the whole way.
How much data you need
Mexico City runs on rideshare and maps: 4–6 GB for a week is realistic. If you are continuing to Oaxaca, Cancún or Baja, the same country plan covers all of it.
