Islamabad is a planned capital laid out in numbered sectors against the Margalla Hills — green, orderly and nothing like the rest of the country's cities. It is also the usual staging point for the Karakoram Highway north, which is where coverage becomes something you plan around rather than assume.
Landing at Islamabad International (ISB)
The airport is about 25km south-west of the city, roughly 45 minutes. Careem and inDrive both operate; agree the fare in the app rather than at the kerb.

Unlimited plans never run out and your eSIM is never disconnected, but every one has a fair-use limit: a set amount of full-speed data, after which the speed is reduced. The amounts differ between plans — most give a daily full-speed allowance that refills every 24 hours from when you first activate the eSIM, while Premium plans give a larger allowance for the whole plan instead. Each plan states its own allowance and the speed after it before you buy. At the reduced speed, messaging, maps, email and light browsing still work; video streaming and video calls may not. If you want every gigabyte at full speed, choose a fixed-GB plan.

Islamabad and Rawalpindi
Good 4G across the sectors, the Faisal Mosque, Daman-e-Koh and the Rawalpindi bazaars. The twin cities are comprehensively covered.
Margalla Hills
The trail heads and the lower routes have signal; the ridges above them thin out. Trail 5 to the viewpoint keeps coverage most of the way.
The Karakoram Highway and Hunza
Coverage follows the highway and the valley towns — Gilgit, Karimabad, Passu all have service. The side valleys, the glaciers and the higher passes do not, and some northern areas restrict foreign SIM use.
Service interruptions
Mobile networks in Pakistan are occasionally suspended in specific areas around security operations, protests or major events. It is not common on a normal trip, but it is worth knowing that a sudden outage may be regional policy rather than your plan.
How much data you need
Two weeks including a northern trip is 4–6 GB. The Karakoram legs use less than expected because much of the route has nothing to connect to.
