Doha eSIM

81 Qatar plans · from $3.65

Doha is a layover city that turned into a destination — Hamad International connects half the world, and Qatar Airways stopover packages put a day or two of museums, souq and desert within reach. A travel eSIM is unusually easy to justify here, because the metro runs straight from the airport terminal.

Landing at Hamad International (DOH)

The Doha Metro Red Line serves the airport directly, reaching the centre in about 20 minutes for a couple of riyals. It is one of the smoothest airport arrivals anywhere — provided you can buy the ticket and check the route on landing.

Which networks you'll be on in Doha

Siima eSIMs for Qatar ride Ooredoo and Vodafone Qatar. Both give excellent 5G across Doha, Lusail and the West Bay corridor.

Coverage around Doha

Doha Metro

Full coverage across the network including the airport line and the tunnels under West Bay. The system is new and comprehensively fitted.

Corniche, Souq Waqif and the Museum of Islamic Art

Strong signal across the waterfront and the cultural district, indoors included.

Lusail and the stadiums

Dense 5G throughout the new districts — this infrastructure was built out for the 2022 World Cup and remains excellent.

The Inland Sea and the desert

Khor Al Adaid and the dune routes south have patchy coverage that disappears entirely in the deeper desert. Tour operators plan around it; you should too.

How much data you need

A Doha stopover is 1–2 GB. Even a full week rarely exceeds 3 GB — the city is compact and hotel Wi-Fi is generally good.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make WhatsApp calls in Qatar?
Generally yes — app-based voice and video calling works on Qatari networks, unlike in the neighbouring UAE where it is blocked at network level. Availability has shifted over the years, so if a call fails it is a network policy matter rather than a problem with your eSIM.
Is an eSIM worth it for a Doha layover?
If you are leaving the airport, yes. The metro from the terminal makes even a five-hour layover viable for the souq or the Corniche, and the smallest plan covers it. If you are staying airside, Hamad's free Wi-Fi is more than adequate.
How do I set up an eSIM before arriving in Doha?
Install it at home while you still have Wi-Fi: open Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM and scan the QR code from your Siima confirmation email. Leave the line switched off until you land — the plan starts counting from first use in Qatar, not from purchase.
How much data do I need for a trip to Doha?
A Doha stopover is 1–2 GB. Even a full week rarely exceeds 3 GB — the city is compact and hotel Wi-Fi is generally good.
Is an eSIM cheaper than roaming in Doha?
Almost always. Daily roaming passes from most home carriers run $10–15 per day, while Siima plans covering Doha start from $3.65 for the whole trip. You also avoid per-megabyte charges if you exceed a roaming pass allowance.
