Hanoi eSIM
100 Vietnam plans · from $3.38
Hanoi's Old Quarter is 36 streets named after the trade once practised on them, and no two map apps agree on where any of them start. A travel eSIM keeps Grab working — which in Hanoi is not a convenience but the practical way to cross the city without negotiating a fare in the traffic.
Landing at Noi Bai (HAN)
The airport is 45 minutes north of the centre with no rail link, and the airport taxi touts are persistent. Booking a Grab from the arrivals hall with an already-active eSIM gives you a fixed price before you walk out.

Which networks you'll be on in Hanoi
Siima eSIMs for Vietnam ride Viettel and Vinaphone. Viettel has the deepest national coverage — including the northern mountains and Ha Long Bay — and is the one to want if you are travelling beyond the city.
Coverage around Hanoi
Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem
Strong 4G throughout, with 5G in much of the centre. The dense tube-house architecture weakens indoor signal on upper floors of the narrow buildings.
Metro Line 2A and the ring roads
The elevated Cat Linh–Ha Dong line has signal along its whole route. Traffic-heavy ring roads are well covered, which matters when your Grab is re-routing constantly.
Ha Long Bay
Coverage is good around Ha Long city and the main cruise routes near shore. Signal drops among the far karst islands and in the caves — expect a genuinely offline stretch on an overnight cruise.
Sapa and Ninh Binh
Both popular overnight trips from Hanoi have coverage in the towns and along the main roads. Sapa's valley trekking routes and the Ninh Binh cave boat rides lose signal in places.
How much data you need
Hanoi is heavy on rideshare and translation: 4–5 GB for a week. If you are doing the full north-to-south run to Hue, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City, size for the whole trip — one plan covers the country.
