iPhone — Step-by-step
Method 1: QR code (recommended)
- 1Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- 2Tap Cellular (or Mobile Service / Mobile Data in some regions).
- 3Tap Add eSIM or Add Cellular Plan.
- 4Tap Use QR Code. Point your camera at the QR code from your Siima confirmation email.
- 5Tap Continue when prompted. Follow the on-screen steps to complete activation.
- 6Label the plan (e.g. "Travel eSIM") and choose when to use it — now or when abroad.
Method 2: Tap-to-install link
- 1Open the confirmation email on your iPhone (not on a computer).
- 2Tap the Install eSIM button or activation link.
- 3Your phone opens the eSIM installer automatically. Follow the prompts.
Method 3: Manual entry (backup)
- 1Open Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM.
- 2Tap Enter Details Manually.
- 3Copy the SM-DP+ address from your email and paste it in the first field.
- 4Copy the Activation Code and paste it in the second field.
- 5Tap Next. Follow the prompts to complete installation.
🤖 Android — Step-by-step
The exact menu names vary by manufacturer. These steps apply to most Android phones including Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel.
Samsung Galaxy
- 1Open Settings → Connections → SIM card manager.
- 2Tap Add mobile plan or Add eSIM.
- 3Tap Scan carrier QR code and scan the QR code from your email.
- 4Tap Add to confirm. Follow the on-screen prompts.
Google Pixel
- 1Open Settings → Network & internet → SIM cards.
- 2Tap Add a SIM or the + icon.
- 3Tap Next on the "Download a SIM instead" screen.
- 4Scan the QR code with your camera when prompted.
- 5Follow the activation prompts. Done.
Troubleshooting
⚠️ QR code not working
Make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi. Try the manual entry method with the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your email.
⚠️ No "Add eSIM" option in settings
Your device may not support eSIM, or it may be carrier-locked. Check our device compatibility guide or contact your phone manufacturer.
⚠️ "eSIM already downloaded" error
Each eSIM profile can only be installed on one device. If you previously installed it and it is missing, contact Siima support.
⚠️ eSIM installed but no signal
Make sure the eSIM is set as your active data line. Go to Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data and select your travel eSIM. Also check you are in a covered area.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Wi-Fi to install an eSIM?
Yes. You need an active internet connection (Wi-Fi or existing mobile data) to download the eSIM profile. Once installed, it works without Wi-Fi.
Can I install the eSIM before my trip?
Yes, and we recommend it. Install at home on Wi-Fi, then enable the eSIM when you land. Your data plan starts when you first use mobile data.
Can I transfer an eSIM to a new phone?
No. Once installed, an eSIM profile is tied to that device. You will need a new plan for a new phone.
What if the QR code does not work?
Use manual entry: Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Enter details manually. Copy the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your email.
