Unlimited plans never run out and your eSIM is never disconnected, but every one has a fair-use limit: a set amount of full-speed data, after which the speed is reduced. The amounts differ between plans — most give a daily full-speed allowance that refills every 24 hours from when you first activate the eSIM, while Premium plans give a larger allowance for the whole plan instead. Each plan states its own allowance and the speed after it before you buy. At the reduced speed, messaging, maps, email and light browsing still work; video streaming and video calls may not. Do I need a passport to get mobile data in Thailand?
Local SIM cards in Thailand need passport verification at every point of sale — airport counters, 7-Eleven and carrier shops — which usually takes 15–30 minutes. A Siima eSIM needs no passport, no ID check and no shop visit: you buy online and scan a QR code.
Does the eSIM work on the Thai islands?
Phuket has strong coverage almost everywhere, and Koh Samui, Koh Lanta and Koh Tao are well covered in towns and on the main beaches. Koh Phi Phi is patchy outside Phi Phi Don town, and remote national-park islands such as the Similans have no signal at all — download offline maps before boat trips.
Do I get a Thai phone number?
No. Siima Thailand plans are data-only. Keep your home SIM switched on for calls and texts if you need them; WhatsApp, LINE, Grab and FaceTime all work over the eSIM’s data.
When should I install the eSIM?
Install it at home before you fly, while you have Wi-Fi: Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data) → Add eSIM, then scan the QR code on your eSIM page — in your Siima account, or through the link we email you. Leave it switched off as your data line until you land, then turn it on and turn data roaming on for the eSIM.
How much data do I need for Thailand?
For maps, messaging and the odd photo, 1–3 GB a week is usually enough. Grab and food-delivery apps use GPS constantly, so add about 500 MB a week if you ride a lot. Streaming or hotspotting a laptop? Pick 10 GB or an Unlimited plan.
Is an eSIM cheaper than roaming in Thailand?
